An interesting brockage mint error
Lot 871
CILICIA. Tarsus (?). Volusian, 251-253. Tetrassarion (Bronze, 28 mm, 9.54 g, 12 h), brockage mint error. ΑΥ ΚЄ Γ ΟΥΙ ΑΦЄ ΓΑΛ ΟΥΟΛΟϹΤΙΑΝΟϹ (sic!) Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Volusian to right, seen from behind. Rev. Incuse of obverse. Cf. RPC IX 1341.1-3 and 1412.1, 1413.1-5, 1416.1-10, 1417.1-7 and 1418.1-4 (all from the same obverse die). Very fine.

This obverse die, with its curiously blundered legend, was very rarely used for Pompeiopolis (RPC IX 1341.1-3), but much more commonly in Tarsos (RPC IX 1412.1, 1413.1-5, 1416.1-10, 1417.1-7 and 1418.1-4), hence our tentative attribution
